London 2012: The Comms Countdown

At a Gorkana Olympics panel event this week, we heard how there is still time for PRs wanting to get involved in the greatest show on earth, and got the low-down on how to pitch Olympics-related content...
Gorkana were joined by representatives from LOCOG, Cadbury, Telegraph Media Group, Weber Shandwick Sport and Brandwatch who shared their plans around the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics from a number of unique perspectives.

Deputy Head, Weber Shandwick Sport
Andrew has been Deputy Head of Weber Shandwick Sport since June 2010 and heads up the London Sports Practice and London 2012 Olympics Practice. He has worked with some of the world's leading brands, sponsors, events, governing bodies and personalities in sport and has responsibility for developing creative strategic communications campaigns delivering standout international media coverage, consumer awareness and brand profile.
Head of PR/Media, LOCOG
Joanna Manning-Cooper is Head of PR/Media for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). She develops and directs all global and national proactive and reactive PR and media campaigns in print, on air and online, and runs one of the busiest press offices in the country.
Joanna joined LOCOG in 2006. She has 20 years? PR and communications experience and prior to joining LOCOG, was Director of Communications for the Financial Times.
Corporate Affairs Director UK&I, Kraft Foods
David has worked in corporate affairs, business and politics for over 14 years, and is currently the Corporate Affairs Director for Kraft Foods UK&I. He joined Cadbury in 2008, heading up Global Public Affairs, and also double-hatting as the UK Corporate Affairs Director during the takeover approach by Kraft Foods. David then took over running the Kraft Foods Brussels office and was responsible for driving a pan-EU external affairs strategy.
Prior to joining Cadbury, David worked for several leading consultancies including Fishburn Hedges and Hill & Knowlton. He began his career working in the Liberal Democrat Press Office, moving on to work for the Chief Whip, Lord Tyler, during Tony Blair's first term as Prime Minister. He also worked on the 2001 and 2005 General Election Campaigns.
Jacquelin Magnay is the Olympics Editor of the Telegraph Media Group coordinating its London 2012 Olympic coverage, and is currently writing across all platforms: online and print as well as working closely with the TMG commercial department. London will be the 9th Olympic Games Magnay has covered and her second "home" Games. A multi award winning investigative reporter, with a strong background in sport politics, Magnay was the chief Olympics correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald in the leadup to and during the 2000 Olympics.
Magnay championed gender equality in sports reporting, winning a celebrated case in the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission back in 1995. She continues to do regular television and radio work around the world.
EMEA Sales Director, Brandwatch
Naomi Trickey is Brandwatch's EMEA Sales Director. She has worked for a variety of companies in the digital sector in several different roles, including senior product manager for the BBC News website, digital consultant to the Department for Education and business development for web companies in the UK and internationally.
